Hi! My name is Christie, and here’s the story of how walking through the doors at Mind Rejuvenation changed my life for the better.

I have been struggling with depression and anxiety since adolescence, fighting daily against intrusive thoughts. I have been to primary care physicians, psychiatrists, pastors, and counselors. My journey has been long and tiresome. If I heard one more person tell me to just “stop thinking about it” or “just breathe” …I might have just screamed.

March of 2023 left me feeling like the world was closing in around me, and I would just be sad and anxious the rest of my life. Over the next few months, I went to counseling twice a week and to see my psychiatrist every week. I was always running to and from mental health appointments. The worst part of it all was that the depression medications would leave me with terrible side effects, where I felt like I was going to crawl out of my skin or couldn’t stop moving, not to mention the terrible nausea that came with certain medications. By October of 2023, I had tried and failed 3 different antidepressants, and nothing was helping. I was crying all the time and could not stop worrying. I had a feeling of impending doom in the pit of my stomach that was constant. In October, my psychiatrist told me about Mind Rejuvenation and Spravato. After doing some research and talking with family, I was very scared and hesitant to try yet again, another medication, especially after reading all the side effects I could have from esketamine [Spravato]. Well, I thought to myself, what have I got to lose? So, I gave the go-ahead to my psychiatrist to send the referral to Mind Rejuvenation. I will NEVER forget the relief I felt when I answered a call a few weeks later from a sweet lady named Peggy from Mind Rejuvenation. Her voice was so kind and soft, and she answered the many questions I had about esketamine, and she put my mind at ease.

In November 2023, I walked through the big, beautiful doors at Mind Rejuvenation scared out of my mind, but I was desperate to feel better. I was still waiting for my insurance to approve Spravato, so my appointment that day was for IV Ketamine. I was greeted with a warm smile and kind, soft words from the wonderful receptionist, Peggy. As I sat waiting to go back to the treatment area, I became nervous again…the next thing I knew, a sweet human walked up to me and introduced herself as Nancy. Nancy immediately put my nerves at ease with her gentle approach and kind voice. Nancy explained everything as she was doing it, and she made me feel very comfortable. I was met with such kindness that it put my soul at ease.

After my first treatment, my mother and I went shopping, and my mother noticed immediately that there was a change, a glimmer of my old self. I began to laugh and joke with my mother, and I enjoyed shopping and looking at all the items on the shelf. I didn’t just go through the motions, wishing I could just go back to bed. For the first time in a long time, I enjoyed myself.

That day when I got home and was alone, I started feeling something different—HOPE. I had hope that there was light at the end of the tunnel. I began visiting more with family and friends. I didn’t just sleep all the time anymore; I was living my life again!! My spouse and family members saw the Christie they had always known coming back around. Every week, I look forward to my appointments and seeing all the friendly faces at Mind Rejuvenation.
